2,2,3,3,4,4,5,5-Octafluor-1-Pentanol wird als Cotensid bei der Synthese von Silber- und Silberiodidnanokristallen verwendet. Wurde auch bei der Synthese von Ag2S-Nanokristallen mit einer charakteristischen Oberflächenplasmonresonanzabsorption bei 330 nm verwendet.
