Ethidiumbromid interkaliert effizient in synthetische Duplex-DNAs mit7-deazaguanin anstelle von Guanin, zeigt aber keine der Fluoreszenzverstärkung, die normalerweise bei der Interkalation beobachtet wird. 7-Deazaadenin-Duplexe zeigen etwa 70 % der erwarteten Fluoreszenzverstärkung.
