Mercury(II) iodide is is used for preparation of Nessler's reagent, used for detection of presence of ammonia. It is a semiconductor material, used in some x-ray and gamma ray detection and imaging devices operating at room temperatures. In veterinary medicine, it is used in blister ointments in exostoses, bursal enlargement, etc.

Anwendungen
Quecksilber(II)-iodid wird für die Herstellung von Nesslers Reagenz verwendet, das zum Nachweis von Ammoniak verwendet wird. Es handelt sich um ein Halbleitermaterial, das in einigen Röntgen- und Gammastrahlendetektions- und Bildgebungsgeräten verwendet wird, die bei Raumtemperatur betrieben werden. In der Veterinärmedizin wird es in Blistersalben, bei Exostosen, Bursal-Vergrößerung usw. verwendet

Löslichkeit
Unlöslich in Wasser. Schwer löslich in Alkohol, Äther, Aceton, Chloroform, Ethylacetat, Olivenöl und Rizinusöl.

Lichtempfindlich. Von Oxidationsmitteln entfernt aufbewahren
