Trimethylacetonitrile used as a solvent and as a labile ligand in coordination chemistry. It is also used as an intermediate in organic synthesis. It is used in the presence of titanium(II) chloride and zinc to undergoes reductive coupling reaction of aromatic and aliphatic ketones including acyclic aliphatic ketones to give the corresponding pinacols.

Anwendungen
Trimethylacetonitril wird als Lösungsmittel und als labiler Ligand in der Koordinationschemie verwendet. Es wird auch als Zwischenprodukt für die organische Synthese verwendet. Es wird in Gegenwart von Titan(II)-Chlorid und Zink verwendet, um reduktive Kopplungsreaktionen aromatischer und aliphatischer Ketone einschließlich azyklischer aliphatischer Ketone zu durchlaufen und die entsprechenden Pinacole zu erhalten.

Löslichkeit
Mischbar mit Ethanol, Aceton und Toluol. Leicht mit Wasser mischbar.

Hinweise
Kühl lagern. Nicht kompatibel mit starken Säuren, starken Basen, starken Oxidationsmitteln und starken Reduktionsmitteln.
