BD Vacutainer™ Citrate Tube
Description
Trisodium citrate works as an anticoagulant by forming complexes with metal ions such as calcium, thereby inhibiting the coagulation cascade. Anticoagulation with trisodium citrate is reversible. The blood to additive ratio is 9:1.
BD Vacutainer™ Citrate Tubes are available in glass or Plus PET, both with blue Hemogard™ closures.
- Both tubes feature clinically equivalent performance
- Glass tubes are recognized as the global “Gold Standard” and have an internal coating of a special silicone to minimize contact activation
- Plus PET tubes include a Minimum Fill Indicator marking and feature innovative tube geometry that minimizes tube headspace and associated platelet activation (to optimize APTT monitoring of unfractionated heparin patients)
- Glass tubes are not recommended for centrifugation at more than 2200 g in a swing-out rotor (1300 g for a fixed angle rotor), and so may not be appropriate for use with platelet free plasma
