(±)-1,3-Butanediol acts as a co-monomer in the production of polyurethane and polyester resins. It is used as a humectant (to prevent loss of moisture) in cosmetics, especially in hair sprays and setting lotions. It is used in surfactants, inks, solvents for natural and synthetic flavorings. It is involved in the synthesis of dual peroxisome proliferator-activated gamma and delta agonists acting as euglycemic agents, which is used in the treatment of diabetes.

(^+)-1,3-Butandiol fungiert als Co-Monomer bei der Herstellung von Polyurethan- und Polyesterharzen. Wird als Feuchthaltemittel (zur Vermeidung von Feuchtigkeitsverlust) in Kosmetika, insbesondere in Haarsprays und Setzlotionen, verwendet. Wird in Tensiden, Farben, Lösungsmitteln für natürliche und synthetische Aromen verwendet. Ist an der Synthese von dualen Peroxisom-Proliferator-aktivierten Gamma- und Delta-Agonisten beteiligt, die als euglykämische Wirkstoffe dienen, die bei der Behandlung von Diabetes eingesetzt werden.

Hinweise
Hygroskopisch. Luft- und feuchtigkeitsempfindlich. Nicht kompatibel mit starken Oxidationsmitteln, sauren Chloriden, Chloroformaten und Reduktionsmitteln. Behälter an einem trockenen und gut belüfteten Ort dicht verschlossen halten.
