1-Bromobutane is used as an intermediate in organic synthesis and as a solvent for cleaning and degreasing. It acts as an alkylating agent as well as to prepare organometallic compounds such as n-butyllithium. It is also involved in the synthesis of procaine and tetracaine. It reacts with magnesium metal to prepare the Grignard reagent, which is used to form carbon-carbon bonds.

Anwendungen
1-Brombutan wird als Zwischenprodukt in der organischen Synthese und als Lösungsmittel zur Reinigung und Entfettung verwendet. Es dient als Alkylierungsmittel und zur Herstellung von metallorganischen Verbindungen wie n-Butyllithium. Es ist auch an der Synthese von Procain und Tetracain beteiligt. Es reagiert mit Magnesiummetall, um das Grignard-Reagenz herzustellen, das zur Bildung von Kohlenstoff-Kohlenstoff-Bindungen verwendet wird.

Löslichkeit
Mischbar mit Ethanol und Diethylether. Nicht mit Wasser mischbar.
