(1-Hexadecyl)trimethylammonium bromide is a cationic surfactant in hair conditioning products. It acts as a phase-transfer catalyst for the preparation of polyamide, polycarbonate and polythiocarbonate. It facilitates ligand-free palladium salt-catalyzed Heck and Suzuki cross-coupling reactions in water. It is an active component of the topical antiseptic cetrimide and used in household products such as shampoos and cosmetics. As a buffer solution, it is involved in the extraction of DNA as well as in the synthesis of gold nanoparticles and silican nanoparticles.

Anwendungen
(1-Hexadecyl)trimethylammoniumbromid ist ein kationisches Tensid in Haarpflegeprodukten. Es dient als Phasentransferkatalysator für die Herstellung von Polyamid, Polycarbonat und Polythiocarbonat. Es ermöglicht ligandenfreie Palladium-Salz-katalysierte Heck- und Suzuki-Kreuzkopplungsreaktionen in Wasser. Ist aktiver Bestandteil des topischen antiseptischen Cetrimids und wird in Haushaltsprodukten wie Shampoos und Kosmetika verwendet. Ist als Pufferlösung an der Extraktion von DNA sowie an der Synthese von Goldnanopartikeln und silikanischen Nanopartikeln beteiligt.

Löslichkeit
Löslich in Alkohol, Chloroform und Wasser. Schwer löslich in Aceton. Unlöslich in Diethylether und Benzol.

Hinweise
Hygroskopisch. In einem luftdichten Behälter lagern. Nicht kompatibel mit Basen und starken Oxidationsmitteln.
