1-Octadecene is an inexpensive solvent having high boiling point. Due to this property, it replaces the heat transfer fluids such as dowthem A or therminol 66 and used in the synthesis of high quality CdSe quantum dots (nano crystal made up of semiconductor materials). These quantum dots find application in transistors, diode lasers and solar cells. It is also used as a solvent for the synthesis of iron oxide nanospheres.

This Thermo Scientific Chemicals brand product was originally part of the Alfa Aesar product portfolio. Some documentation and label information may refer to the legacy brand. The original Alfa Aesar product / item code or SKU reference has not changed as a part of the brand transition to Thermo Scientific Chemicals.

Anwendungen
1-Octadecen ist ein kostengünstiges Lösungsmittel mit hohem Siedepunkt. Aufgrund dieser Eigenschaft ersetzt es Wärmeübertragungsflüssigkeiten wie Dowthem A oder Therminol 66 und wird bei der Synthese hochwertiger CdSe-Quantenpunkte (Nanokristall aus Halbleitermaterialien) verwendet. Diese Quantenpunkte finden Anwendung in Transistoren, Diodenlasern und Solarzellen. Es wird auch als Lösungsmittel für die Synthese von Eisenoxid-Nanosphären verwendet.

Löslichkeit
Mischbar mit Alkohol, Aceton und Äther. Nicht mit Wasser mischbar.

Hinweise
Reaktionen mit starken Lewis- oder Mineralsäuren vermeiden. Radikalische Initiatoren vermeiden. Behälter an einem trockenen und gut belüfteten Ort dicht verschlossen halten.
