2-Hexanone acts as a solvent for lacquers, ink thinners, nitrocellulose, resins and waxes. It is also employed in the preparation of (±)-monomorine. It also plays a useful role in the preparation of alcohols by transfer hydrogenation of ketones. Further, it is used as a medium evaporating solvent for nitrocellulose acrylates, vinyl and alkyd coatings.

2-Hexanon dient als Lösungsmittel für Lacke, Tintenverdünner, Nitrocellulose, Harze und Wachse. Es wird auch bei der Herstellung von (+/-)-Monomorin eingesetzt. Es spielt auch eine wichtige Rolle bei der Vorbereitung von Alkoholen durch Transferhydrierung von Ketonen. Darüber hinaus wird es als mittelverdampfendes Lösungsmittel für Nitrocellulose-Acrylate, Vinyl- und Alkyd-Beschichtungen verwendet.
Löslichkeit
Mischbar mit Aceton, Ethanol und Ether. Leicht mit Wasser mischbar.
Hinweise
Kühl lagern. Nicht kompatibel mit Oxidationsmitteln, starken Basen und Reduktionsmitteln.
