3-Hydroxybutyric acid is used in enantioselective synthesis of D-(-)-3-hydroxybutyric acid by escherichia coli. It forms films of random copolymer with (R)-3-hydroxypentanoic acid, (R)-3-hydroxyhexanoic acid, 4-hydroxybutyric acid, 6-hydroxyhexanoic acid and (S,S)-lactide by the melt-crystallized method.

Anwendungen
3-Hydroxybuttersäure wird bei der enantioselektiven Synthese von D-(-)-3-Hydroxybuttersäure durch Escherichia coli verwendet. Es bildet Schichten aus zufälligem Copolymer mit (R)-3-Hydroxypentansäure, (R)-3-Hydroxyhexansäure, 4-Hydroxybuttersäure, 6-Hydroxyhexansäure und (S,S)-Lactid nach dem schmelzkristallisierten Verfahren.

Löslichkeit
Mischbar mit Wasser, Alkohol und Ether.
