4-Pentynoic acid is widely utilized as a building block for the synthesis of eight sequence-defined model oligomers. Due to its triple bond at terminal carbon, it is employed as an intermediate to produce biologically active compounds. It is used as a hypoglycemic agent, which increases liver tyrosine aminotransferase and plasma corticosterone while decreasing blood sugar in rats.

Anwendungen
4-Pentensäure ist ein weit verbreiteter Baustein für die Synthese von acht sequenzdefinierten Modelloligomeren. Wird aufgrund der dreifachen Bindung am Kohlenstoff-Terminus wird als Zwischenprodukt zur Herstellung biologisch aktiver Verbindungen eingesetzt. Wird als hypoglykämisches Mittel verwendet, das die Leber-Tyrosin-Aminotransferase und das Plasma-Corticosteron erhöht und gleichzeitig den Blutzucker bei Ratten verringert.

Löslichkeit
Löslich in organischen Lösungsmitteln mit niedriger Polarität. Wasserlöslich.
