Azulene is used as an additive in ointments. It is an active ingredient in cosmetics, shaving creams and other topicals. It is used as antioxidant and in anti-inflammatory activities. It is involved in the colorimetric determination of furfural. It acts as ligand for low valent metals and forms pi complexes with both cyclopentadienyl and cylcloheptatrienyl ligands in organometallic chemistry. It is also used as precursor for the preparation of (azulene)Mo2 (CO)6 and (azulene)Fe2 (CO)5.

Anwendungen
Azulen kommt als Zusatz in Salben zum Einsatz. Es ist ein Wirkstoff in Kosmetika, Rasiercremes und anderen topischen Substanzen. Besitzt antioxidative und entzündungshemmende Eigenschaften. Es ist an der kolorimetrischen Bestimmung von Furfural beteiligt. Es fungiert als Ligand für niedrigvalente Metalle und bildet pi-Komplexe mit Cyclopentadienyl- und Cycloheptatrienyl-Liganden in der metallorganischen Chemie. Es wird auch als Vorstufe für die Herstellung von (Azulen)Mo2 (CO)6 und (Azulen)Fe2 (CO)5 verwendet.

Löslichkeit
Löslich in organischen Lösungsmitteln.

Hinweise
Kühl lagern. Behälter an einem trockenen und gut belüfteten Ort dicht verschlossen halten. Nicht kompatibel mit starken Oxidationsmitteln.
