Bentonite, sodium form is used as a suspending agent, a gel binder, a filler in ceramics and a catalyst support.Sodium bentonite is widely utilized as a natural sealant in recreational ponds, dairy and sewage lagoons and city landfills. Due to its colloidal property, it is employed in drilling mud for oil and gas wells. Due to its swelling property, it provides a self-sealing low permeability barrier. It combines with polymers and enhances the surface modifications, which are used for rheological or sealing performance in geo-environmental applications.

Bentonit wird in der Natriumform als Suspensionsmittel, Gelbindemittel, Keramikfüllstoff und Katalysatorstütze verwendet. Natriumbentonit wird weithin als natürliches Dichtmittel in Freizeitteichen, Molkerei- und Abwasserbehandlungsteichen und auf städtischen Deponien verwendet. Aufgrund seiner kolloidalen Eigenschaft wird es in Bohrschlamm für Öl- und Gasbohrungen eingesetzt. Aufgrund seiner Quelleigenschaft bietet es eine selbstdichtende Barriere mit geringer Permeabilität. In Kombination mit Polymeren verbessert es die Oberflächenmodifikationen, die für rheologische oder Dichtungsleistungen in Geo-Umweltanwendungen.
