Allgemeine Beschreibung
• Bilirubin ist ein Häm-Abbauprodukt nach der Aktivität von Häm-Oxidase.Bilirubin wird im reticuloendothelialen System hergestellt und in der Leber konjugiert.Es erscheint als orange-gelbes Pigment, das in der Galle abgesondert wird.
• Hohe Konzentrationen von nicht konjugiertem Bilirubin können zu Gelbsucht, einem Zustand der Vergilbung von Haut und Augen führen.Dies kann toxisch und ein Anzeichen für schwere Lebererkrankungen sein.
•Bilirubin übt Funktionen wie Zellsignalisierung, Stoffwechselmodulation und Immunregulation aus.
•Es hat schützende antioxidative Wirkung auf gemäßigten Niveaus.
Verwendung
• Bilirubin wird häufig in Studien zu Leberfunktion und -erkrankungen wie Hepatitis oder Zirrhose verwendet.
•Als Antioxidans wurde Bilirubin im Schutz gegen von H2O2 vermitteltem Zelltod untersucht.
• Es lässt sich als Scavenger für reaktive Sauerstoffspezies (Sauerstoffradikale, ROS) oder als Inhibitor der NADPH-Oxidase einsetzen.
