cis-Cyclooctene is used as a displaced ligand in chlorobis(cyclooctene)rhodium dimer and chlorobis(cyclooctene)iridium dimer in organometallic chemistry. It acts as a monomer used in synthetic chemistry. It is used to prepare 1-chloro-4-(trichloromethyl) cyclooctane by reaction with carbon tetrachloride using dichlorotris(triphenylphosphine) ruthenium(II) as a catalyst. Further, it is used to study the alkenes chemisorbed on silicon(100) by scanning tunneling microscopy.

Anwendungen
cis-Cycloocten wird in der metallorganischen Chemie als verdrängter Ligand in Chlorobis(cycloocten)rhodium-Dimer und Chlorobis(cycloocten)iridium-Dimer verwendet. Wird als Monomer in der synthetischen Chemie verwendet. Dient zur Herstellung von 1-Chlor-4-(trichlormethyl)-cyclooctan durch Reaktion mit Tetrachlorkohlenstoff unter Verwendung von Dichlortris(triphenylphosphin)ruthenium(II) als Katalysator. Wird darüber hinaus in der Rastertunnelmikroskopie zur Untersuchung von auf Silizium (100) chemisorbierten Alkenen eingesetzt.

Löslichkeit
Mischbar mit Alkohol und Ether. Nicht mit Wasser mischbar.

Hinweise
Luftempfindlich. Nicht kompatibel mit starken Oxidationsmitteln.
