Citrate, is used as an anticoagulant and also used as a biological buffer. It is often used to prepare sodium citrate buffer for antigen retrieval of tissue samples. The citrate solution is designed to break protein cross-links, thus, unmasking antigens and epitopes in formalin-fixed and paraffin embedded tissue sections, resulting in enhancing staining intensity of antibodies. Citrate has anticoagulant activity and as a calcium chelator, it forms complexes that disrupt the tendency of blood to clot.

Anwendungen
Citrat, wird als Antikoagulans und auch als biologischer Puffer verwendet. Es wird häufig zur Vorbereitung von Natriumcitratpuffer für die Antigengewinnung von Gewebeproben verwendet. Die Citrat-Lösung wurde entwickelt, um Protein-Querverbindungen zu brechen. Daher werden Antigene und Epitope in formalinfixierten und paraffineingebetteten Gewebeschnitten abgetastet, was zu einer Erhöhung der Färbungsintensität von Antikörpern führt. Citrat weist antikoagulante Aktivität auf und bildet als Kalziumchelator Komplexe, die verhindern, dass das Blut gerinnt.

Löslichkeit
Es ist in Wasser (29.4 g/l) bei 20 °C löslich. Unlöslich in Ethanol.

Hinweise
Kühl lagern. Behälter an einem trockenen und gut belüfteten Ort dicht verschlossen halten. Von starken Oxidationsmitteln fernhalten.
