Cyclopentane is used as green blowing agent and involved in the production of polyurethane insulating foam, which is used in refrigerators, freezers, water heaters, construction panels, insulated pipes and roofs. As a lubricant, it finds applications in computer hard drives and outer space equipment due to its low volatile nature. It is widely useful in the preparation of resin, adhesives and pharmaceutical intermediate. It is an additive in gasoline. Since it is a halogen free compound and has zero-ozone depletion potential, it replaces the conventionally used chloro fluoro carbon (CFC) in refrigeration and thermal insulation.

Cyclopentan wird als umweltfreundliches Treibmittel verwendet und ist an der Produktion von Polyurethan-Isolierschaum beteiligt, der in Kühlschränken, Tiefkühlgeräten, Wasserheizungen, Baupaneelen, isolierten Rohren und Dächern verwendet wird. Als Schmierstoff findet es aufgrund seiner geringen flüchtigen Natur Anwendungen in Computerfestplatten und Außenraumgeräten. Ist sehr nützlich bei der Herstellung von Harz, Klebstoffen und pharmazeutischen Zwischenprodukten. Ist ein Additiv in Benzin. Da es eine halogenfreie Verbindung mit einem Ozonabbaupotential von Null herstellt, ersetzt es den konventionell verwendeten Chlorfluorkohlenstoff (FCKW) in der Kälte- und Wärmedämmung.
Löslichkeit
Mischbar mit Ethanol, Äther und Aceton. Leicht mit Wasser mischbar.
Hinweise
Hitze, direktes Sonnenlicht, Flammen und Funken vermeiden. Nicht kompatibel mit starken Oxidationsmitteln.
