Diethylene glycol dimethyl ether is used as a solvent in organic reactions due to its stability towards higher pH and its high boiling point. It is particularly involved in reactions utilizing organometallic reagents such as Grignard reactions and metal hydride reductions. It is also a solvent for hydroboration reactions with diborane.

Anwendungen
Diethylenglycol-Dimethylether wird aufgrund seiner Stabilität gegenüber höherer pH-Werte und seines hohen Siedepunktes als Lösungsmittel in organischen Reaktionen verwendet. Es ist besonders an Reaktionen beteiligt, die organometallische Reagenzien nutzen, wie Grignard-Reaktionen und Metallhydrid-Reduktionen. Es ist auch ein Lösungsmittel für Hydroborationsreaktionen mit Diboran.

Löslichkeit
Mischbar mit Wasser, Ethanol, Aceton, Essigsäure, Glycerin, Pyridin und Aldehyden. Leicht mischbar mit Ether.

Hinweise
Hygroskopisch. Behälter an einem trockenen und gut belüfteten Ort dicht verschlossen halten. Nicht kompatibel mit starken Oxidationsmitteln.
