Ethyl chloroformate is used as derivatization reagent to investigate stereochemical conversion of chiral non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs during derivatization reaction. It is also used with ammonia and cyanuric chloride to convert carboxylic acids to nitriles. It is used to develop flexible template strategy for the generation of nanometer-scale templates via dip-pen nanolithography.

Anwendungen
Ethylchlorformat wird als Derivatisierungsreagenz zur Untersuchung der sterochemischen Umwandlung chiraler nicht steroidaler entzündungshemmender Medikamente während der Derivatisierungsreaktion verwendet. Wwird auch zusammen mit Ammoniak und Cyanurchlorid zur Umwandlung von Carbonsäuren in Nitrilen verwendet. Wird zur Entwicklung einer flexiblen Template-Strategie für die Generierung von Nanometervorlagen über die Dip-Pen-Nanolithographie verwendet.
