Anwendungen
Ameisensäure wird hauptsächlich als Konservierungsmittel gegen Bakterien in Tierfutter, bei der Färbung von Textilien, beim Gerben von Leder und in der Galvanik verwendet. In der Geflügelindustrie wird sie manchmal zum Futter hinzugefügt, um E. coli-Bakterien zu töten. Sie dient als Reduktionsmittel für die katalytische Reduktion von Nitrat in Wasser.

Löslichkeit
Mit Wasser mischbar. Teilweise mischbar mit Toluol, Xylol und Benzol.

Hinweise
Hygroskopisch. An einem trockenen und gut belüfteten Ort dicht verschlossen halten. Geöffnete Behälter müssen sorgfältig abgedichtet und aufrecht gehalten werden, um ein Auslaufen zu vermeiden.
