Glutaric acid is used as the raw material for organic synthesis, pharmaceutical intermediate and synthetic resin. It serves as a precursor in the production of polyester polyols, polyamides, ester plasticizers and corrosion inhibitors. It is useful to decrease polymer elasticity and in the synthesis surfactants and metal finishing compounds. It acts as an intermediate during the catabolism of lysine in mammals.

Anwendungen
Glutarsäure wird als Rohstoff für die organische Synthese, pharmazeutische Zwischen- und Kunstharze verwendet. Dient als Vorstufe bei der Herstellung von Polyester-Polyolen, Polyamiden, Ester-Weichmachern und Korrosionshemmern. Ist zur Verringerung der Polymerelastizität und in den Synthese-Tensiden und Metallverarbeitungsverbindungen nützlich. Wirkt während des Katabolismus von Lysin bei Säugetieren als Zwischenprodukt.

Löslichkeit
Löslich in Wasser, Alkohol, Benzol und Chloroform. Schwer löslich in Petrolether.

Hinweise
Nicht kompatibel mit Basen, Oxidationsmitteln und Reduktionsmitteln.
