Anwendungen
Isopropylidenmalonat ist ein wichtiges Reagenz in der synthetischen Chemie und an der Bildung neuer C-C-Bindungen, -Ringe, -Amide, -Ester und -Säuren beteiligt. Das Vorhandensein von Carbonylgruppen an C-4- und C-6-Positionen begünstigt die Alkylierung und die Acylierungsreaktionen aufgrund seiner sauren Natur. Es wird auch als antimikrobielles Mittel eingesetzt. Es wird bei der Herstellung von 4-Pyridyll-substituierten Heterozyklen, 2-substituierten Indolen, Isofraxidin und makromyclischen Beta-Keto-Lactonen verwendet. Weiterhin ist es an der Knoevenagel-Kondensationsreaktion mit Aldehyden beteiligt.

Löslichkeit
Wasserlöslich. Schwer löslich in Ethanol und Chloroform.

Hinweise
Kühl lagern. Nicht kompatibel mit starken Oxidationsmitteln.
