Melrilimab is a biosimilar antibody, specifically an anti-IL1RL1/ST2 antibody. The gene associated with this biosimilar is IL1RL1, which encodes the interleukin-1 receptor-like 1 protein, also known as ST2 or IL-33R. This receptor is predominantly expressed on the surface of immune cells and plays a role in the immune response by interacting with the cytokine IL-33. IL1RL1 is located on chromosome 2q12.1 in humans. It is a member of the interleukin 1 receptor family and forms a heterodimer with the IL-1 receptor accessory protein (IL-1RAcP), functioning as the receptor for IL-33.
