Grow a wide variety of pathogenic and non-pathogenic bacteria with general purpose Thermo Scientific™ Oxoid™ Blood Agar Base (Dehydrated). Without any additions, the medium can be used for short-term maintenance of stock cultures. With added serum and other enrichments, the medium is suitable for cultivation of many fastidious organisms. With the addition of blood, the medium becomes suitable for the determination of hemolytic reactions which are important diagnostic criteria for many organisms.

Blut-Agar-Basis ist ein sehr nahrhaftes Medium, das in der Regel als Basalmedium durch den Zusatz von Blut für die Vorbereitung von Blut-Agar verwendet wird. Es kann ohne Zusatz von Blut auch als Universalmedium verwendet werden.

Blut-Agar-Basis wurde bei Untersuchungen von bestrahlten Escherichia coli und anderen Bakterien verwendet1,2. Es war das am besten geeignete Medium zur Untersuchung der Phagen von Clostridium perfringens3 und als Grundlage für ein selektives Medium für Clostridium perfringens4. Es wurde mit Phenolphthalein-Phosphat zum Nachweis von Phosphatase-produzierenden Staphylokokken5 und mit Zusatz von Salz und Agar zur Beurteilung der Oberflächenkontamination von Geräten und Schweineschlachtkörpern verwendet6. Der Nährboden wurde zur Bestimmung des Salinitätsbereichs des Wachstums von marinen Flavobakterien verwendet7.
