Beschreibung

Färbt sich beim Vorhandensein von Basen (bei pH-Wert 8.2–10) rotviolett. Phenolphthalein-Indikator in Ethanol (1 g/l) von Chem-Lab enthält 1 g C20H14O4 pro 1 l C2H5OH. Dient als Indikator für Säure-Basen-Titrationen. Hergestellt gemäß Europ. Arzneibuch Ph. 4.4.1.1 Normen.

Phenolphthalein wird zur Verwendung in Experimenten in der Regel in Alkohol aufgelöst. Es ist eine schwache Säure, die H-+ Ionen in Lösung verlieren kann. Das Phenolphthalein-Molekül ist farblos, das Phenolphthalein-Ion rosa. In sauren und neutralen Lösungen ist die Lösung farblos. Wenn dem Phenolphthalein eine Base hinzugefügt wird, findet mehr Ionisierung statt, wodurch die Lösung eine rotviolette Farbe erhält. Diese Lösung wird bei pH-Wert 8.2–10.0 in dieses Rosa.
