Anwendungen
Natriumethoxid wird als starke Base in der organischen Synthese verwendet. Ist aktiv an der Claisen-Kondensation, Stobbe-Reaktion und Wolf-Kishner-Reduktion beteiligt. Es ist ein wichtiges Ausgangsmaterial für die Synthese von Ethylester und Diethylester von Malonsäure. In der Williamson-Ethersynthese reagiert es mit Ethylbromid zu Diethylether. Wird häufig als Base für die Erzeugung von Carbanionen verwendet, die für Alkylierungs- und Kondensationsreaktionen zum Einsatz kommen.

Löslichkeit
Löslich in Ethanol und Methanol.

Hinweise
Feuchtigkeitsempfindlich. Natriumethoxid wird in Gegenwart feuchter Luft schnell der Hydrolyse unterzogen, um in kurzer Zeit Natriumhydroxid zu bilden. Nicht kompatibel mit Wasser, starken Basen, Säuren, Oxidationsmitteln, Alkalimetallen, starken Oxidationsmitteln, Ammoniak, Säurechloriden, sauren Anhydriden, Reduktionsmitteln, Peroxiden, Säuren und chlorierten Lösungsmitteln.
