Sodium formate is used in analytical chemistry to precipitate noble metals. It is used for tanning leather, for dyeing and printing fabrics. It acts as an electroplating agent, an acidulant in the textile industry, a reducing agent, a mordant, a complexing agent. Further, it is used in photographic fixing baths. In addition, it is used as a buffering agent for strong mineral acids and food additive.

Anwendungen
Natriumformiat wird in der analytischen Chemie zur Fällung von Edelmetallen verwendet. Wird zum Gerben von Leder, zum Färben und Drucken von Stoffen genutzt. Fungiert als Galvanikmittel, als Säuerungsmittel in der Textilindustrie, als Reduktionsmittel, als Beizmittel, als Komplexbildner. Darüber hinaus Verwendung in fotografischen Fixierbädern. Zudem Verwendung als Puffermittel für starke Mineralsäuren und als Lebensmittelzusatz.

Löslichkeit
Löslich in Wasser, Alkohol, Glycerin und Ameisensäure. Unlöslich im Äther.

Hinweise
Hygroskopisch. Nicht verträglich mit starken Oxidationsmitteln, starken Säuren. Empfindlich gegen Feuchtigkeit.
