Sodium hydrogen phosphate is used in food and water treatment in conjunction with trisodium phosphate. It is used as an emulsifier and buffer in foods and pharmaceuticals, anti-caking additive in powdered products, dietary supplement, scale inhibitor, reagent and buffer in analytical chemistry. It finds application in detergents, cleaning agents, textile, leather auxiliary, fertilizers and galvanoplastics. Further, it is used as a saline laxative to treat constipation. It inhibits the calcium scale formation in water treatment plants.

Natriumhydrogenphosphat wird in der Lebensmittel- und Wasseraufbereitung in Verbindung mit Trinatriumphosphat verwendet. Es wird als Emulgator und Puffer in Lebensmitteln und Pharmazeutika, als Antiklumpmittel in pulverförmigen Produkten, als Nahrungsergänzungsmittel, als Ablagerungshemmer, als Reagens und als Puffer in der analytischen Chemie eingesetzt. Es findet Anwendung in Waschmitteln, Reinigungsmitteln, Textilien, Lederhilfsmitteln, Düngemitteln und Galvanoplastiken. Desweiteren wird es als salzhaltiges Abführmittel zur Behandlung von Verstopfung verwendet. Es hemmt die Bildung von Kalkablagerungen in Wasseraufbereitungsanlagen.
Löslichkeit
Wasserlöslich. Unlöslich in Ethanol, Methanol und n-Octanol.

Hygroskopisch. Nicht kompatibel mit starken Säuren, starken Oxidationsmitteln und starken Basen.
