tert-Butyl alcohol is used as a solvent and ethanol denaturant. It is an active ingredient of paint remover. It acts as an intermediate in the production of methyl tertiary butyl ether and ethyl tertiary butyl ether by reaction with methanol and ethanol. It is also used in the preparation of tert-butyl chloride, tert-butyl hydroperoxide, isobutylene and methyl methacrylate. It serves as a fuel additive as well as a gasoline octane booster.

Anwendungen
Tert-Butylalkohol wird als Lösungsmittel und Ethanoldenaturant verwendet. Er ist ein aktiver Bestandteil von Farbentfernern. Er wirkt als Zwischenprodukt bei der Herstellung von Methyltertiärbutylether und Ethyltertiärbutylether durch Reaktion mit Methanol und Ethanol. Er wird auch bei der Herstellung von tert-Butylchlorid, tert-Butylhydroperoxid, Isobutylen und Methylmethacrylat verwendet. Dient auch als Kraftstoffzusatz sowie als Oktanbooster.

Löslichkeit
Mischbar mit Wasser, Ethanol, Ethylether und Chloroform.

Hinweise
Nicht kompatibel mit starken Oxidationsmitteln, Kupfer, Alkalimetallen und Aluminium.
