Thionyl bromide is used as a brominating agent in organic synthesis. It is used in the bromination of alfa-beta-unsaturated carbonyl compounds. It is also used to prepare alkyl bromides from alcohols.

Anwendungen

Mischbar mit Benzol, Toluol und Äther.

Hinweise
Feuchtigkeits- und lichtempfindlich. Kühl lagern. Behälter an einem trockenen und gut belüfteten Ort dicht verschlossen halten. Nicht kompatibel mit Wasser, Hydrobromid, Aceton und Alkohol. Es hydrolysiert schnell, um Bromid aus Wasserstoff zu gewinnen.
