Thymidine is used in the syntheses of active pharmaceutical ingredient such as zidovudine. It also pairs with deoxyadenosine in double-stranded deoxyribonucleic acid. It is used to synchronize the cells in G1/early S phase in cell biology.

Anwendungen
Thymidin wird bei der Synthese von pharmazeutischen Wirkstoffen wie Zidovudin verwendet. Bildet in doppelsträngiger Desoxyribonukleinsäure ein Basenpaar mit Desoxyadenosin. Wird in der Zellbiologie zur Synchronisierung der Zellen in der G1-/frühen S-Phase verwendet.

Löslichkeit
Löslich in Wasser, Methanol, heißem Ethanol, heißem Aceton, heißem Ethylacetat, Pyridin, Eisessigsäure und Salzsäure. Schwer löslich in heißem Chloroform.

Hinweise
Kühl lagern. Nicht kompatibel mit starken Oxidationsmitteln.
