Description

Trimethyl borate is a useful reagent in organic synthesis. It is involved in the production of resins, waxes and paints and acts as a methylation agent. As a boron source, it is used to prepare flame retardants, anti-oxidants and corrosion inhibitors. It reacts with Grignard reagents followed by hydrolysis to prepare boronic acid. It is also used as a precursor of borate esters, which finds application in Suzuki coupling reaction. It is an intermediate in the preparation of sodium borohydride.

Anwendungen
Trimethylborat ist ein nützliches Reagenz für die organische Synthese. Ist an der Herstellung von Harzen, Wachsen und Lacken beteiligt und wirkt als Methylierungsmittel. Als Borquelle dient es zur Herstellung von Flammschutzmitteln, Antioxidantien und Korrosionshemmern. Reagiert mit Grignard-Reagenzien, gefolgt von Hydrolyse zur Vorbereitung von Boronsäure. Wird auch als Vorstufe von Boratestern verwendet, die Anwendung in Suzuki-Kupplungsreaktion finden. Ist ein Zwischenprodukt bei der Herstellung von Natriumborhydrid.

Löslichkeit
Mischbar mit Tetrahydrofuran, Äther, Isoporpylamin, Hexan und Methanol.

Hinweise
Feuchtigkeitsempfindlich. Behälter an einem trockenen und gut belüfteten Ort dicht verschlossen halten. Nicht kompatibel mit Oxidationsmitteln. Zersetzt sich langsam bei Vorhandensein von Feuchtigkeit und schnell in Wasser.
