Trimethyloxonium tetrafluoroborate act as a avmethylating agent and activates C-X multiple bonds. It is involved in the esterification of polyfunctional carboxylic acids. It acts as a catalyst in the polymerization of cyclic sulfides and ethers. Further, it is used in Beckmann rearrangement of oximes.

Trimethyloxoniumtetrafluoroborat fungiert als Methylierungsmittel und aktiviert mehrere C-X-Bindungen. Es ist an der Veresterung polyfunktionaler Carbonsäuren beteiligt. Löslichkeit
Löslich in Nitrobenzol, Nitromethan, Chloroform, heißem Aceton, flüssigem Schwefeldioxid. Schwer löslich in Dichlormethan. Unlöslich in gängigen organischen Lösungsmitteln.
Hinweise
Hygroskopisch. Feuchtigkeitsempfindlich. Kühl lagern. Nicht kompatibel mit starken Oxidationsmitteln und Basen.
