MIP-II, also known as Macrophage Inflammatory Protein-2 (MIP-2), is a chemokine belonging to the CXC chemokine family. It is primarily produced by macrophages in response to inflammatory stimuli such as bacterial infections, cytokines, and endotoxins. MIP-2 plays a pivotal role in the immune response by attracting and activating neutrophils to sites of infection or injury, thereby contributing to the inflammatory process. This chemokine is involved in various physiological and pathological processes, including wound healing, immune defense, and the development of inflammatory diseases. Elevated levels of MIP-2 are often observed in conditions such as sepsis, arthritis, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), highlighting its significance in disease pathogenesis.
