It is used to produce 3-(2-hydroxy-3,5-dinitro-phenyl)-propenal with acetaldehyde. 3,5-Dinitrosalicylaldehyde has been used in the preparation of salicyldimine ligand via Schiff base condensation with allyl-substituted aniline, 3-hydroxycoumarins2, chromogenic proteinase substrates and ruthenium(II) chiral Schiff base complexes.

Anwendungen
Es wird zur Herstellung von 3-(2-Hydroxy-3,5-dinitrophenyl)-propenal mit Acetaldehyd verwendet. 3,5-Dinitrosalicylaldehyd wird bei der Herstellung eines Salicyldiminliganden durch Kondensation von Schiffschen Basen mit Allyl-substituiertem Anilin, 3-Hydroxycoumarinen2, chromogenen Proteinase-Substraten und chiralen Ruthenium(II)-Komplexen von Schiffschen Basen verwendet.

Löslich in Wasser, 0.6 g/100 ml (18 °C).
