RNase A, DNase- und Protease-frei ist eine Endoribonuklease, die speziell einzelsträngige RNA an C- und U-Resten degradiert.
Sie spaltet die Phosphodiesterbindung zwischen der 5'-Ribose eines Nukleotids und der an die 3'-Ribose gebundene Phosphatgruppe eines benachbarten Pyrimidin-Nukleotids. Das resultierende 2'-, 3'-cyclische Phosphat wird zum entsprechenden 3'-Nukleosidphosphat hydrolysiert (siehe Referenzen 1, 2).
