Human Interleukin 5 (IL-5) Recombinant Protein, RIL510, from Invitrogen.

IL-5 is a cytokine that acts as a growth and differentiation factor for both B cells and eosinophils. IL-5 cytokine is a main regulator of eosinopoiesis, eosinophil maturation and activation. The elevated production of this cytokine is reported to be related to asthma or hypereosinophilic syndromes. The receptor of IL-5 cytokine is a heterodimer, whose beta subunit is shared with the receptors for interleukine 3 (IL3) and colony stimulating factor 2 (CSF2/GM-CSF). IL-5, together with those for interleukin 4 (IL4), interleukin 13 (IL13), and CSF2, form a cytokine gene cluster on chromosome 5. IL-5, IL4, and IL13 are found to be regulated coordinately by long-range regulatory elements spread over 120 kilobases on chromosome 5q31. RIL510 contains 116 amino acid residues. Purity: >98% pure by SDS-PAGE and HPLC analyses. Activity: One unit of activity is <0.15ng/mL, as determined by the stimulation of human TF-1 cells, corresponding to a specific activity of >6x10^6 units/mg. Use: IL-5 exerts activity in the range of 0.1 to 10ng/mL for most in vitro applications. Reconstitution and Dilution: Reconstitute in distilled water to a concentration of 100ug/mL. After reconstitution, dilute cytokine in a neutral buffer containing carrier protein such as 5-10% FBS or 1-4% high purity BSA (fatty acid free fraction V). Lyophilized product is stable until expiration if stored desiccated below 0°C. Cytokines diluted as indicated above should be divided into aliquots and stored at -70°C. Recombinant proteins should be stored at concentrations >500ng/mL to reduce loss of activity.
