Pyrene and its derivatives are used commercially to make dyes and dye precursors, for example pyranine and naphthalene-1,4,5,8-tetracarboxylic acid. It is used as a probe to determine solvent environments and fluorescence spectroscopy.

Anwendungen
Pyren und seine Derivate werden kommerziell zur Herstellung von Farbstoffen und Farbstoffvorstufen, z. B. Pyranin und Naphthalin-1,4,5,8-tetracarbonsäure, verwendet. Es wird als Sonde zur Bestimmung von Lösungsmittelumgebungen und bei der Fluoreszenzspektroskopie verwendet.

Löslich in Toluol. Unlöslich in Wasser.
